SCALING AND ROOT PLANING

This is a treatment in which the teeth are thoroughly cleaned below the gum line, removing plaque and bacteria. In most cases, local anesthetic (freezing) is used to allow the cleaning to be as thorough as possible, while keeping the patient comfortable. Scaling and root planing can reduce gum inflammation and allow the patient to more effectively brush and floss at home.
